How to Sell Shopify Products on Your Squarespace Site (Without Rebuilding Anything)

You can sell Shopify products directly on your Squarespace site by embedding a buy button script into any page. Your visitors browse, add to cart, and check out through Shopify without leaving your Squarespace design. The whole setup takes about five minutes.

This guide walks through exactly how to do it, including the limitations of Shopify’s built-in method and a better approach if you need a cart that works across pages, subscriptions, or analytics.

Why sell Shopify products on Squarespace?

You probably chose Squarespace because it looks great. The templates are polished, the editor is intuitive, and your site already reflects your brand exactly the way you want it.

But when it comes time to sell products, Squarespace’s native commerce tools can feel limited. Especially if you already manage inventory, fulfillment, and payments through Shopify. Rebuilding your entire product catalog in Squarespace’s commerce system means duplicating work and managing two separate systems.

The smarter approach is to keep Squarespace as your website and Shopify as your commerce engine. Embed products where they make sense (inside blog posts, on landing pages, on a dedicated shop page) and let Shopify handle everything behind the scenes.

This is especially useful if you’re a creator, photographer, consultant, or small business owner who has a content-focused Squarespace site but wants to sell physical products, digital goods, or subscriptions without starting over.

The native method: Shopify’s built-in Buy Button

Built-in Channel

Shopify offers a built-in Buy Button sales channel. In your Shopify admin, you go to the Buy Button sales channel, select a product, choose a layout (basic, classic, or full view), customize the styling, and generate an HTML embed code. Then you paste that code into a Code Block on any Squarespace page.

It works. Products show up. Customers can click and buy. But there are some real limitations that become frustrating quickly.

No persistent cart across pages. If a customer adds a product on one page and navigates to another page, the cart doesn’t follow them. For a site with products embedded across multiple blog posts or pages, this is a dealbreaker.
Limited design control. The native Buy Button gives you a few color and layout options, but matching it to a carefully designed Squarespace site takes a lot of manual CSS work. And once you generate the code, changes require regenerating and re-embedding from scratch.
No subscription support. If you sell any kind of recurring product (a subscription box, a membership, a replenishable supply) the native Buy Button can’t handle it on external sites.
No analytics on what’s working. You can see orders in Shopify, but you have no way to tell which page or embed actually drove a sale.
One product at a time. You generate separate code for every product. There’s no concept of components, bundles, or curated collections that a customer can interact with in one block.

For a single product on a single page, the native method is fine. For anything more, you’ll hit these walls quickly.

A better approach: using Buy Button Plus

Built for Content Creators

Buy Button Plus is a Shopify app built specifically for embedding products on external websites like Squarespace. It solves the limitations above.

Cart that works across your entire site. A customer can add a product on your blog, navigate to another page, add something else, and check out from anywhere. The cart persists across every page of your Squarespace site.
Design that matches your site. Customize colors, fonts, button text, and layout from the app dashboard. On the Pro plan, you can add custom CSS for pixel-perfect matching.
Subscription products. If you have subscription products set up in Shopify, Buy Button Plus supports them out of the box. Customers can subscribe to recurring deliveries directly from your Squarespace page. No additional Shopify apps needed.
Conversion analytics. See which buy buttons and which pages drive the most sales, not just the most traffic.
Discount codes. Run promotions with Shopify discount codes that work inside embedded buy buttons. Available on every plan, including the free tier.

Step-by-step: setting up Buy Button Plus on Squarespace

Install Buy Button Plus from the Shopify App Store

Go to the Shopify App Store listing and click “Add app.” Follow the prompts to install it on your Shopify store. The Starter plan is free and includes one buy button, a cart, discount codes, and multi-variant product support.

Create a buy button

In the Buy Button Plus dashboard inside your Shopify admin, click to create a new buy button. Select the product you want to sell. You’ll see a live preview as you customize the layout, button text, colors, and behavior.

Copy the embed code

Once you’re happy with the preview, Buy Button Plus generates a small script tag. A single line of code. Copy it to your clipboard.

Add it to your Squarespace page

In your Squarespace editor, navigate to the page where you want the product to appear. Add a Code Block (found under the “+” menu when editing a section). Paste the embed code into the code block. Save and publish.

Add the cart script (one time)

To enable the persistent cart across your whole site, add the global cart script in Settings > Advanced > Code Injection in your Squarespace admin. Paste it into the Header section. This only needs to be done once and it enables the cart on every page of your site.

That’s the full setup. Visitors can now add products from any page, browse your site, and check out whenever they’re ready.

Tips for a polished Squarespace + Shopify setup

Place products inside content, not on a separate shop page. The highest-converting embeds are the ones that appear in context. Inside a blog post about your process, on a portfolio page next to the work, or in a services page alongside what you offer. Let the product appear where the reader is already engaged.
Use Squarespace’s spacing controls around code blocks. Squarespace gives you padding and margin controls for each section and block. Use them to make sure the embedded product has breathing room and feels native to your layout.
Test the full checkout flow. Before going live, go through the experience as a customer. Add to cart, navigate to a different page, come back, and check out. Make sure the cart persists and the checkout works on both desktop and mobile.
Keep product details in Shopify. Any changes you make to product titles, descriptions, pricing, images, or inventory in Shopify automatically sync to your embedded buy buttons. You never need to touch the Squarespace embed code again.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a full Shopify plan to sell on Squarespace?
You need an active Shopify account. Buy Button Plus works with any Shopify plan, including the Starter plan which starts at $5 per month.
Will the embedded products slow down my Squarespace site?
No. The embed script loads asynchronously, which means it doesn’t block your page from rendering. Your Squarespace site stays fast.
Can I sell subscriptions on Squarespace through Shopify?
Yes. Buy Button Plus supports Shopify subscription products on the Core plan and above. Customers can subscribe to recurring deliveries directly from your Squarespace page. Read the full guide: Selling Subscriptions on Your Website with Shopify.
What happens when I update a product in Shopify?
Changes sync automatically. If you update the price, description, images, or inventory in Shopify, the embedded buy button on Squarespace reflects the change without you touching any code.
Can customers build a cart across multiple Squarespace pages?
Yes. With the global cart script installed (a one-time setup in Squarespace’s code injection), the cart persists across your entire site. Customers can add products from different pages and check out once.
Can I use this on WordPress or Wix instead?
Yes. Buy Button Plus works on any platform that supports custom HTML. For WordPress there’s also a free dedicated plugin. Read the full WordPress guide: How to Sell Shopify Products on Your WordPress Site.
